Journalists on the sports desk will move to other roles within the newsroom and no layoffs are planned.“Though we know this decision will be disappointing to some, we believe it is the right one for readers and will allow us to maximize the respective strengths of The Times’s and The Athletic’s newsrooms,” New York Times Co. More than 460,000 students at the 23 California State University campuses could see annual tuition increases in coming years — for the first time in nearly a decade.The CSU Board of Trustee’s Committee on Finance will weigh a proposal on Tuesday, July 11, that would implement 6% tuition hikes every year starting in the fall 2024 and ending in the spring 2029 semesters. (KRON) -- A man who allegedly destroyed a large window and was seen swinging a large metal pipe was arrested Monday morning, according to the San Rafael Police Department. Officers responded at 7:10 a.m. on a report of in-progress vandalism in the 800 block of Francisco Boulevard East.At the scene, officers learned that a large window had been destroyed by the suspect. Officers obtained a description of the suspect from witnesses who said he was carrying and swinging a metal pipe. (KRON) -- A man who was already serving time in an Arizona state prison on unrelated charges has been arrested in connection to a 2022 homicide that took place in San Jose, according to the San Jose Police Department. Noel Cortez was initially arrested in September of 2022 for a warrant out of Arizona. Fire at Civic Center BART Station creating transit delays Cortez was taken into custody and extradited to the Arizona State Prison Complex. San Jose PD Homicide Unit detectives later identified Cortez as the person responsible for a 2022 homicide.In that incident, officers responded on July 31, 2022 at around 3:55 p.m. to the 300 block of Umbarger Road on a report of a shooting.
