Wall Street fell for a third straight day as rising yields in the bond market keep cranking up the pressure. The S&P 500 lost 0.8% Thursday, with August on track to be its worst month of the year by far. The Dow fell 290 points, or 0.8%, and the Nasdaq composite gave back 1.2%. Stocks broadly have retreated in August, in part because a swift rise in bond yields is forcing a reassessment of how much to pay for them. BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — World-record hurdler Tobi Amusan had her temporary suspension lifted Thursday after an appeals panel found she had not violated antidoping rules that call for a suspension for missing tests.The decision came two days before the start of world championships, and about a month after the Nigerian hurdler went on social media and announced she had been charged for missing three tests in the span of 12 months.Amusan’s event, the 100-meter hurdles, start next Tuesday. (AP) — State labor officials have temporarily shut down more than two dozen Boston Market restaurants in New Jersey after finding multiple violations of workers’ rights, including more than $600,000 in back wages owed to 314 employees.A stop-work order was issued Tuesday by the Department of Labor against 27 restaurants across New Jersey. The state also imposed nearly $2.6 million in penalties against the firm.The Associated Press sent an email seeking comment to Boston Market’s corporate office in Golden, Colorado, on Thursday. DENVER (KDVR) -- Colorado's students have still not caught up to their pre-pandemic test performance, according to the latest release of data from the Colorado Department of Education. The state is still bouncing back from learning losses sustained during the global COVID-19 pandemic, when school interruptions and remote learning shifts took a big toll on students nationwide. The department released the results of the academic tests known as CMAS for 2023 on Thursday, along with PSAT and SAT data. Overall, the percentage of students who met or exceeded expectations dropped in 2023 from the 2019 testing averages, though testing has improved in most cases since 2022. Why are Denver groceries so expensive? The CMAS test is given to students in grades 3-8. The test is grouped into English language and arts (ELA) and mathematics. A science CMAS is given to students in grades 5 and 8 as well as high school students. An exotic bird that was stolen from a Southwest Miami-Dade home has been reunited with its owners.Riki, a 23-year old harlequin macaw, was missing for three months after it was stolen from the backyard if its family’s home, located along the 7300 block of Southwest 161st Place, May 16. “Oh, she’s dancing,” Eduardo Munoz said. “I feel blessed, it’s a miracle, I never lost hope. I feel overwhelmed; it’s a great feeling.”That bird theft was just one of several in Southwest Miami-Dade in the past few months.Police used surveillance video evidence to track down their suspect. Back in July, they arrested 45-year-old Lazaro Mantillaur and recovered more than a dozen birds. Nearly all southbound lanes on the Florida Turnpike in Miramar have reopened to traffic after a vehicle fire led to lane closures in the middle of rush hour.The blaze sparked at mile marker 41 due in the middle lane, at around 4:45 p.m., Thursday.The fire initially led to a complete closure of all southbound lanes, causing traffic disruptions along the Miami-Dade/Broward county line.As of 5:45 p.m., all but two lanes have reopened.
