WELD COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) -- Puerto Rico's government has announced the closure of the U.S. territory's only zoo following years of animal welfare concerns. The permanent closure of the 45-acre zoo was announced last month, as investigations continue into allegations of abuse and neglect. It means more than 300 animals will have to find new homes, and the majority will likely be coming here to Colorado. Specifically, many of the animals will come to the Wild Animal Sanctuary outside of Keenesberg, in Weld County, where more than 700 animals have already been rescued from similar situations.“We’re definitely preparing," said Derek McCormick. "It’s going to be a massive effort, for sure.”McCormick said the sanctuary's founder, Pat Craig, recently flew to Puerto Rico to examine the situation. What makes you ‘low income’ in Denver? He's been tasked with finding new homes across the country for all of the animals and anticipates most of the large carnivores will be moved to Colorad...Free MiniCon, ReptiCon, plus 8 things to do this weekend

(CNN) — Some thrill seekers describe bungee jumping as a near-death experience, but few come quite as close as one man who managed to survive his cord snapping in Thailand.Footage of the terrifying ordeal went viral this week after the 39-year-old tourist from Hong Kong went public with his story. The tourist, who asked to use only his first name Mike to avoid online harassment, took a swan dive off of a 10-story-high podium in the town of Pattaya while on holiday in January this year.Fortunately, the jump was made over a body of water. The bungee rope snapped milliseconds before Mike neared the bottom of his jump, slamming him into the water below.“I landed on my left side so the injuries were more serious there,” Mike told CNN, recounting how he was left covered in bruises. “It was as if someone just beat me up real bad.”His plunge was witnessed by friends who were with him at the Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park.Located in the northwest o...After Macron, le déluge

Anyone looking at France right now could be forgiven for thinking the country was on the edge of a revolution.Major cities from Paris to Lyon erupted in riots overnight on Thursday, with black-clad protesters lighting bonfires and hurling projectiles at riot police after President Emmanuel Macron rammed an unpopular reform of the pension system through parliament. More than 400 police were injured. The violence capped weeks of mass protests as millions marched through French cities to oppose the reform, which will raise the legal age of retirement to 64 from 62 currently. More protests are already planned for next week, piling pressure on Macron’s already embattled government and prompting Britain’s King Charles to cancel a highly-awaited visit.Yet for all the sound and fury of the protests, which could yet worsen if students join in, there’s nearly zero risk that Macron himself will have to leave office. Having narrowly survived a vote of no confidence, he may see...WATCH: NH woman helps rescue pet pig on the loose

With opening day only six days away, the Chicago Cubs and White Sox have some important roster decisions to make before the end of Cactus League games. The final rosters aren’t due until the morning of opening day Thursday, so teams can bring extra players with them as they break camp and wait to finalize their decisions. Injuries obviously will factor into the moves, and Cubs left-hander Brandon Hughes’ left knee soreness could determine how the bullpen looks. In a roster move Thursday, the Sox optioned right-hander Davis Martin to Triple-A Charlotte. Forty-one players remain in camp: 20 pitchers, three catchers, 11 infielders and seven outfielders.Starter Michael Kopech allowed five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks in three-plus innings for the Sox in a 6-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants at Camelback Ranch.“My timing was just not there, and I was trying to find it almost the whole outing,” said Kopech, who pitched while being under th...Latest news
